Panadura central bus stand resumes transport services

Panadura Additional District Judge and Additional Magistrate Chaminda Kalansuriya issued an order to the Regional Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Kalutara to open the Panadura Depot central bus stand for transport services.

Eight months ago, the court issued an order to the Regional Manager of the SLTB Kalutara and the Manager of the Panadura SLTB depot to suspend the transport services of SLTB and private buses at the Panadura SLTB central bus stand as the building was dilapidated and posed a danger to passengers.

This was following a case filed by the Panadura Urban Council informing court that if the dilapidated building of the SLTB central bus stand collapsed, it would be a danger to the passengers.

When the case was called before court yesterday, senior lawyer Vajira Kavisinghe appearing for the traders around the bus stand premises informed court that the SLTB Regional Manager had collected funds from the traders and the SLTB employees and voluntarily re-constructed the dilapidated building at the bus stand premises and that it was now suitable to begin transport services.

The judge considered the submissions made by the lawyer and issued an order for transport services from the SLTB central bus stand to resume with immediate effect.

Following the court order, the SLTB and private transport services resumed yesterday afternoon.
