Bring COL down, reduce fuel prices - Rajitha

Former United National Party (UNP) MP Rajitha Senaratne urged the government to bring down the fuel prices parallel to the decrease in world fuel prices.

Senaratne made these remarks while addressing media yesterday at UNP headquarters Sirikotha.

He said the government should facilitate people promptly by bringing down fuel pieces with the decreasing world fuel prices.

He said fuel prices could be brought down by Rs 15 now, if the fuel price formula introduced by the UNP government was implemented.

Speaking on the health sector, he said that there is a shortage of drugs in hospitals. According to him certain cancer patients died due to the scarcity of drugs at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital. “When I was the Health Minister, no patient died due to the scarcity of drugs. The entire country is going into a great precipice,” he said.

Senaratne said this government has stopped all the development activities implemented by the previous government. Accordingly programmes such as ‘Gamperaliya’, ‘Enterprise Sri Lanka’ have been suspended by this government. He said that the last government rectified the salary anomalies prevailed from 2002 to 2015 of pensioners. Under the ‘Enterprise Sri Lanka’ programme, people were assisted to become entrepreneurs while offering loans at low interest rates. All the development programmes introduced by the last government have been stopped, he noted.

Senaratne said that with the poor financial management, the living cost is high and said no important drug is available at government hospitals by now. He said that not only drugs, but also eye lenses were provided free during their tenure.

Former MP Saman Ratnapriya said the government has let down people in the first 100 days of its tenure.He added that the government is not in a position to assist people.
