Quarantine in Hendala for arrivals from three countries

The Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ministry has named the Hendala Leprosy hospital as the Quarantine Centre for Sri Lankans arriving from COVID-19 hit South Korea, Italy and Iran, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the decision had been taken by the National Action Committee on COVID-19.

All passengers arriving from the three affected countries will be subject to a compulsory 14 day quarantine period.

Earlier 33 students who came from Wuhan were successfully quarantined at the Diyathalawa Quarantine Centre. The Army will fully support the second new Quarantine Centre at Hendala Hospital. No individual quarantined at Diyathalawa was infected.

No individual with any type of sickness will be sent to the Hendala Hospital. All those sent to Hendala are healthy individuals who do not need any type of medical treatment, he said.

All required uniforms, masks and the other requirements to ensure the safety of the health staff will be provided. Every action will be taken by the Health Services Director General according to the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance, he added.

Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that all measures will be taken scientifically following all relevant rules and regulations and no villagers living around Hendala Hospital will be affected. “No staff member or their family members will be affected by the procedures. Sri Lanka should be safeguarded against COVID-19,”he said.
