The new Commissioner General Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Sumith Alahakoon said that new strategic plan will be formulated to eliminate corruption and increase efficiency at the DMT to serve the public in a better manner.

Capacity of the Department will be increased to cater the public demands. More service counters will be opened at the DMT premises to eliminate queue of customers.

He further said that E-motoring system for the online registration of vehicles will be implemented shortly. The E-motoring System (EMS) would connect all stakeholders in the field including importers, sales centres and insurers island wide.

The DMT at Narahenpita is currently being renovated in preparation for the implementation of the new system and the part of the building should be handed over to the company which implement the EMS project after completing the relevant renovations, he added.

“The new system will enable consumers to update all details through an electronic automated online system relating to vehicles such as import details, registrations, transfers, license renewals and all other important details,” he said.
