Two BIA Duty-Free shop employees arrested

Two Duty-Free shop employees at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) were arrested by the Customs officials yesterday when they attempted to smuggle out over 3kg of gold valued at Rs.24.48 million.

Customs Media Spokesman Additional Customs Director General Sunil Jayaratne said that 3Kgs and 103 grams of gold jewellery, gold biscuits and gold pieces had been hidden in the trouser pockets and the waists of the suspects. The two suspects are youths aged 25 and 26 years and they are residents of Dan-ovita and Ragama. They worked at an apparel shop and toy shop at the Duty Free premises.
