‘Dissolution of Parliament, a timely decision’

Dissolution of Parliament is a timely decision taken by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, National Freedom Front (NFF) Media Spokesman Mohammed Muzammil said.

Responding to a statement recently made by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake questioning the reason for early dissolution of Parliament, NFF Spokesman said the previous Parliament lost the people’s mandate after the local government elections was held in 2018. “For the first time in history, a ruling party had been swept away at a mid-term election. It suffered a major defeat at the elections,” he said.

He further said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given an opportunity to the public to form a new government. The NFF Spokesman urged the public to cast their votes for Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya, enabling the President to form a powerful government with a two-thirds majority in Parliament in order to continue the National Policy Framework, ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ and also to adopt a new Constitution in keeping with the demands of the 21st century.

Commenting on the newly-formed ‘Samagi Bala Sandanaya’, Muzammil said it is the first political alliance which held its first convention without a symbol. He questioned what the people can expect from a political alliance like this, which cannot even come into an agreement about its symbol.
