Island-wide operation to nab quacks

Quacks in the 26 District Regional Health Directors’ Divisions will be nabbed next week as per the Healthcare and Indigenous Medical Services Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi’s instruction.

Over 40,000 quacks operate now displaying bogus qualifications at their dispensaries, the latest surveys revealed.

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge explained the situation at a meeting of government doctors in Kurunegala yesterday (2). He added that the quacks put innocent patients in jeopardy.

Many patients reportedly fall severely ill by taking medicines from them, he said.
