Quarantine for arrivals from Italy, Iran and South Korea

All passengers arriving in Sri Lanka from Italy, South Korea and Iran will be subject to a 15-day mandatory quarantine period at their respective places of stay, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous

Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi declared yesterday.

Moreover, passengers on cruise liners will be prohibited from disembarking at Colombo and other ports, Minister Wanniarachchi said.

Addressing a press conference held at the Health Ministry Auditorium in Colombo, the Minister said the Technical Committee appointed to address the COVID-19 issue will meet daily under the leadership of Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe.

Addressing the press conference, Dr. Jasinghe said the VIP Lounge is also included in the monitoring mechanism. Passengers who arrive in Sri Lanka indirectly from South Korea, Italy or Iran will also be tracked down and led to the relevant unit at the BIA by Immigration and Emigration Department officials.

According to the Health Ministry risk assessment, countries such as Thailand, Singapore,

Malaysia etc do not pose a significant threat to Sri Lanka but South Korea, Italy and Iran, where COVID-19 cases have soared, pose a threat.

Right now, 1,954 individuals who had arrived in Sri Lanka are under surveillance. Out of this number, 679 are Sri Lankans. There are 747 arrivals from China and 380 from South Korea. There are 148 individuals from other countries. There are 677 individuals in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) area who are under surveillance. A total of 1,145 passengers have arrived in Sri Lanka from affected countries up to now from February 25. It is expected that the arrivals will decrease due to tough quarantine process taking place in Sri Lanka.
