St. Thomas’ College is one of the oldest schools in the country with a history of 175 years. The school which started on March 10, 1844, with 11 students, today has a student population of nearly 5,000.

The school has produced the cream of intellectuals, sportsmen, politicians, artistes and other eminent persons who have rendered vital service to the motherland during its history of nearly two centuries. Foremost among them was Kumaratunga Munidasa.

Matara St. Thomas’ College OBA Colombo branch was set up in May 1973 at a meeting convened at Colombo Ananda College.

The OBA Colombo branch has been rendering vital service towards the progress of their alma mater every year.

The Alfred Edirisinghe scholarship fund set up by the Colombo branch in memory of one of its founder members grants annual scholarships to students of the school to enter university and show excellence in medicine, engineering, law and information technology.

The OBA Colombo branch has also been assisting sports and other extracurricular activities of the school. Its members attend the school’s annual big match ‘Battle of the Blues’ to encourage the school team. Assistance is also rendered towards football and other games.

Last year, the OBA Colombo branch renovated the 100-year-old office building including the Principal’s office and quarters and handed it over to the school authorities. The refurbished building was handed over to the school last year with the participation of OBA Colombo branch Chairman Dudley Edirisinghe and other office bearers.
