Confidential details missing says PTL counsel

Attorney Sajitha Jayawardena appearing on behalf of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that the Forensic report pertaining to Central Bank Bond scam has confirmed that several confidential details which are to be sent for the digital forensic report were found to be deleted from the computer system of the Assistant Governor of the Central Bank.

Counsel Sajitha Jayawardena made this remark when the magisterial inquiry into Central Bank Bond scam was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne observed that she cannot consider this issue since this forensic report had been issued pursuant to the Presidential Commission inquiry into Central Bank bond scam.

Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius, CEO Kasun Palisena, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank P. Samarasiri, Perpetual Treasuries Chairman Geoffrey Aloysius and three directors of Perpetual Treasuries Pushpamitra Gunawardena, Chitta Ranjan Hulugalle and Muthuraja Surendran were present in court yesterday.

They were also accused of allegedly aiding and abetting and conspiring with Arjuna Mahendran to misappropriate public funds worth of Rs. 688 million during the Bond auction held on February 27, 2015.

The Counsel who appeared on behalf of primary dealer of Perpetual Treasuries requested to release the money which they had invested to buy Treasury bonds. Counsel also stated that the money which they have invested at PTL has already matured in 2018 and asked that this money be released to the primary dealer.

The Magistrate issued an order directing the Central Bank Governor to release the invested money with interest to the primary dealer Perpetual Treasuries.

The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for March 26.
