Raghavan rebuffs ‘rumours’ about request to join TNA

Former Northern Province Governor Suren Raghavan told the Daily News yesterday that the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has not asked him to join them for the upcoming General Election.

“I have been invited to TNA conferences and discussions, but I attend them to see the condition of Tamil politics. There are rumours about me joining the TNA, but those are false,” he said.

When asked if he would consider joining the TNA if approached, Raghavan said, “It would depend on the terms and conditions, as my only aim is to serve the people.”

The new Tamil political factions and alliances cannot outdo the TNA as it is the strongest Tamil political party in the country, he said.

“These factions were created because certain party members’ ideologies did not align with the rest. The TNA has been through a lot: the war, the Indian Army’s influence, and ethnic issues. At present, it has one goal: unity.”
