Tackling the heat: Drinking normal tap water is safe

The people should drink more water during this hot weather and the light coloured urine is an indicator / measurement for an adequate quantity of water in the body, the Director of the Environmental and Occupational Health Unit of the Health Ministry Dr. Thilak Siriwardhana said.

Addressing a press conference held at the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) in Colombo yesterday, he urged people not to drink bottled water but rather normal tap water supplied by the National Water Supply Board, which is safe to drink. The water can however be contaminated when stored in various tanks located at homes, offices etc.

The intense heat poses a danger to human health and people die in heatwaves in other countries Sri Lanka should not become one of those countries where people die from the intense heat.
