IH Music and Dance 2020

For an evening of nonstop action and eye popping talent, there are few events to beat the Elizabeth Moir School Inter House Music and Dance competition. Held recently at The Stables, Park Street, the event, as always, provided an excellent and much anticipated opportunity for students to display their creativity and individuality.

Elizabeth Moir School Choir/Orchestra Director Miss Sureka Amerasinghe guided the students and accompanied them for all the music items, while Melissa Fisher provided guidance with the choreography of the dance items. Sureka explained what makes the event so special “Inter House Music and Dance truly brings out the talents, leadership and team skills of students. This year there were many who participated for the first time. It was great to see everyone support new talent and appreciate and help each other. Group song was the most outstanding compared to other years, and students explored arranging and compositional skills too through this category”.

“The presentation was professional and the timing was just right” said Dr. Gananath Dissanayake, Saxophonist in the band En Route, who along with Shobi Perera and Bridget Ryan, was a Guest Judge at the event “The group songs were of a very high standard and some of the duets were exceptional.”

This year, the Group Song category was won by Columbus, while Fleming took the Group Instrumental prize and Leeth Singhage and Umaama Hussain from Armstrong bagged the Duets trophy.

The Group Dance win went to Hillary. Armstrong emerged overall winners, with Fleming in second place, and Hillary and Columbus in third and fourth place.
