Sixteen people under observation for COVID-19

According to the latest statistics issued by the Epidemiology Unit yesterday (March 1), a total of sixteen (16) people are currently under observation for COVID-19.

Five people are warded at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), four at the Negombo DGH, three at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, two at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital,one at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and one at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH), Colombo.

Health Ministry sources said there is no need for the public to wear face masks. But, it is advisable for those with flu, seasonal influenza etc. and people with significantly low immunity due to special health conditions and specific diseases wear face masks while visiting public places. Meanwhile, the two Sri Lankans who arrived from Italy and admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda with signs of fever and coughing were declared negative for COVID-19,”the sources said.

According to the situation report issued by the WHO on Saturday, 2,924 people have died due to COVID-19 and with 85,403 cases reported from 53 countries in the world.
