Former ministers still in official residences

Some 20 ministers of the former government have not handed over their official residences to the Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry, W.D. Somapala, senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry told the Daily News yesterday in Kurunegala.

The Ministry has requested them three times in writing to hand over their official residences to allow the government to give those residences to the present ministers and deputy ministers.

Several of the former ministers have appealed to the government to allow them at least another month to hand over their residences. “If they fail to return those residences in a month, legal action has to be taken against them. Although we are reluctant to do so, we would be compelled to,” Somapala.
