Ajith Prasanna, two others further remanded

Retired Major and Attorney-at-Law Ajith Prasanna and two former Navy intelligence officers Thushara Mendis and K.A. Gamini who were arrested for making statements regarding a youth abduction case at a media briefing organised by the ‘War Heroes for Motherland’ organization on December 6, 2019, were ordered to be further remanded till March 10 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.

Thushara Mendis and K.A.Gamini had participated in a media conference which was organized by the ‘War Heroes for Motherland’ organization on December 6, 2019. The two suspects were arrested on January 28.

The two suspects had made several allegations regarding the investigation officials and the ongoing investigation about the case involving the alleged abduction of 11 youths.

When the case was taken up before court, President’s Counsel Maithri Gunarathna appearing on behalf of Ajith Prasanna pleaded that his client be granted bail.

Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigations Department told court that a Magistrate’s Court has no jurisdiction to grant them bail.

The Magistrate stated that he required time to consider the facts submitted by the Defense Counsel and fixed the bail order for March 10.
