Bogollagama indicted for excessive spending in 2006

The Bribery Commission filed indictments in the Colombo High Court against former Eastern Province Governor Rohitha Bogollagama over corruption charges relating to excessive spending in 2006. The Bribery Commission alleged that Bogollagama while Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Minister had illegally given his approval to release Rs.1,170,444 as hotel accommodation costs for an investment promotion exhibition held in London from June 21 to 23, 2006.

The Bribery Commission further alleged that Bogollagama had also influenced the then BOI chairman to release Rs. 414,000 for the London exhibition contravening Treasury guidelines. The Bribery Commission Director General listed 10 persons as witnesses and furnished 15 documents as evidence. Indictments were filed under two counts for committing the offence of corruption under the Bribery Act.
