One shot dead in Horana

One person was shot dead on the Ilamba Kandana Road, Ilamba in the Horana Police division by two unidentified people who came on a motorcycle on Monday (24) at 9.30 pm. The suspects had fled the scene of the crime after firing at the victim who was travelling in a three-wheeler.

The deceased was identified as a 32-year-old resident of Ilamba, Horana. The suspects had shot at another three-wheeler and a house which was on the same road. Investigations are continuing.

Motorcycle crash kills one

A woman who was on the pillion seat of a motorcycle died when the rider lost control on the Getambuwana road in Piliyandala on Monday (24) at 1.30 pm.

They were travelling towards Piliyandala when the accident happened due to a sudden patch that occurred in the rear wheel.

She succumbed to her injuries following the admission to the Kalubowila Hospital.

She was identified as a 58-year-old resident in Piliyandala.

Piliyandala Police are investigating.

Bus – car collision: One dies

One died and three women were injured when a private bus which was proceeding towards Thanamalwila collided head-on with a car in the R28 junction on the Thanamalwila road, Wellawaya in the Kuda Oya Police division on Monday (24) at around 6.45 pm.

The four injured were admitted to the Dehigashandiya Hospital after which the driver of the car succumbed to his injuries. Later, the three women were transferred to the Moneragala Hospital. The deceased was identified as a 35-year-old resident of Randenigodayaya, Hadpanagala.

Kuda Oya Police are investigating.

Motorcyclist dies

A motorcyclist died when he lost the control of the motorcycle on the Ratnapura – Embilipitiya road in Balawinna in the Godakawela Police division on Monday (24) at 10.30 am.

He was riding towards Pallebedda when he hit a rock on the road and lost the control of the motorcycle. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the Godakawela Hospital. He was identified as a 23-year-old resident of Godakawela. Investigations are continuing.

Forest fire in Urubokka

A fire erupted in a forest reserve in Ginnaliya in the Urubokka Police division on Monday (24) at around 12.00 pm. Officers from the Police and the Wildlife Department with the help of people brought the fire under control. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Urubokka Police are conducting investigations.
