A historic shrine at the Weluwanarama, Pallepola in Matale is in ruins now. It is said that Monaravila Keppetipola Nilame, who led the 1818 insurrection against the British rulers, had built the shrine.

His residence had been at the location and during that time, he had built the shrine for engaging in his religious rituals. His barn still remains beside it. Later, it had been changed to a Buddhist temple known as Weluwanarama.

Now bats and stray dogs inhabit the shrine. Its frescoes are in ruins now.

The Archaeological Department has conserved a part of the shrine, but later, it seems they have neglected the whole shrine.
