Chinese tourist leaves NIID fully cured

Sri Lanka has one of the world’s strongest health systems and because of that the country was able to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic here and cure the female Chinese tourist infected with the virus, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

Minister Wanniarachchi said further steps will be taken to make Sri Lanka’s health system stronger than now. She was addressing the gathering held to send off the female Chinese tourist (43) from National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) in Angoda yesterday morning.

Minister Wanniarachchi said it was President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who gave leadership to help control the disease successfully. Minister Wanniarachchi thanked Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe, NIID Director Dr. Hasitha Aththanayake, Consultant Physicians Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Dr. Eranga Narangoda and all other health staff attached to the NIID and other relevant institutions for their had work.

The NIID had treated 128 suspected patients and 79 of them were Sri Lankans. A total of 32 Chinese nationals were among the patients treated.
