Only two under observation for Covid-19 now

Only two persons in Sri Lanka were under observation for the COVID-19 virus by yesterday (18). No patients are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) in Angoda now. One person at Kandy National Hospital is under observation and another at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital is under observation.

Only one COVID-19 positive case, a female Chinese tourist, was diagnosed from Sri Lanka as positive, Epidemiology unit sources said. This patient positive for COVID-19 is clinically cured and in good health. She will be discharged from the hospital soon after the final medical report is received confirming her ‘COVID-19 free status’.

The 33 students quarantined at the Diyathalawa Army Camp for 14 days were handed over to their families last Friday. They did not have any type of sickness and cleared from a possible COVID-19 infection. In the current Sri Lankan context, there is no scientific justification to wear face mask routinely by the public including children. Persons suffering from common flu or seasonal influenza can wear face masks to protect family members, co-workers and the public, the sources said.

Epidemiologists advise the public to wash hands frequently, to avoid close contact with people suffering from flu, to avoid contacts with live or dead animal, to always cover the nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing (with disposable tissue / cloth or cough to the bent elbow), not to touch mouth, nose, eyes unnecessarily and to avoid crowded places as much as possible in order to avoid all respiratory infections including COVID-19.
