New institution will be established to develop, promote and market Sri Lanka as a best tourist and travel destination both in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Industrial Export, Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Services Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the government has paid its attention to amalgamate Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and set up this new Institution to create Sri Lanka as one of the most popular international tourist destinations.
He further said there is a suggestion to amend the Sri Lanka Tourism Act No. 38 of 2005 for the betterment of the tourism sector. The amendment is expected to be submitted to the Cabinet for the approval in the future,” he added.
He further said that priority has been given to elevate the current status of Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management ( SLITM ) as a degree awarding institution. Plans are also underway to offer a bachelor degree in Hospitality Management in the near future.
