Who commends Lanka for handling of possible COVID-19 outbreak

The WHO Representative in Sri Lanka Razia Pendse stated that the way Sri Lanka controlled a possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the country is highly commendable.

Expressing her views to the Independent Television Network (ITN), she stated that the leadership given by the highest authorities is highly commendable. She admired the steps taken by the highest authorities in Sri Lanka through educating the public and easing unnecessary fears and carrying out quarantine in an effective way.

Meanwhile, only three persons in Sri Lanka are under observation for COVID-19 as at yesterday (Monday) and the only COVID-19 positive case detected in Sri Lanka so far is a female Chinese tourist, the Epidemiology sources said.

The Chinese woman is clinically cured and in good health. She will be discharged from the hospital after the final medical report confirms her ‘COVID-19 free status’.

The other two persons are under observation at the NIID and at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

“Persons suffering from common flu or seasonal influenza are advised to wear face masks in order to protect family members, co-workers and the public,” the sources said.

Epidemiologists advise the public to wash hands frequently, to avoid close contact with people suffering from the flu, avoid contact with animals, cover the nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing (with disposable tissue/cloth), refrain from touching mouth/nose/eyes unnecessarily and to avoid crowded places.
