COVID-19: Two people still under observation

Two Sri Lankans are still under observation for COVID-19 as at yesterday (Sunday) with only one positive case, a female Chinese tourist detected in Sri Lanka, the Epidemiology sources said.

According to sources, the only positive COVID-19 case detected is clinically cured and in good health. She will be discharged from the hospital soon after the final medical report received confirming her ‘COVID-19 free status’.

One person is under observation at the NIID while the person is at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

The 33 students who were housed at the Diyathalawa Army Camp for 14 day quarantine period were handed over to their families on Friday.

They did not have any type of sickness and were cleared from a possible COVID-19 infection.

Sources said that there is no scientific justification for the general public to wear face masks. But, persons suffering from common flu or seasonal influenza can wear face masks in order to protect family members, co-workers and the public.

Epidemiologists advise the public to wash hands frequently, avoid close contact with people suffering from the flu, avoid contact with live or dead animals, always cover the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing (with disposable tissue / cloth), avoid touching the mouth /nose/eyes unnecessarily and to avoid crowded places as much as possible in order to avoid all respiratory infections including COVID-19.
