Suspect nabbed with forged passport at BIA

A Sri Lankan youth who tried to travel to Portugal via Italy, using forged documents was arrested by the Department of Immigration and Emigration at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake yesterday.

The suspect is a 35-year-old from Jaffna. He had arrived at the airport at 3.10 am yesterday morning to board Qatar Airways flight QR-663 to Portugal via Italy. He had first got clearance for the departure for Malpensa, Italy. Officials had then realized that the Portuguese visa he presented was forged. The Immigration Officer found the visa to be forged. The suspect had told the authorities that an Indian friend in Portugal was helping him to come to the country.

The Katunayake Airport Immigration and Emigration Division is carrying out further investigations.
