Maj. Gen.Hettiarachchi, appointed Rehabilitation Commissioner General

Maj. Gen.Darshana Hettiarachchi assumed duties as Rehabilitation Commissioner General yesterday.

He also serves as the Head of the Office of National Action Plan for Countering and Preventing Radicalization, Violent Extremism, and Terrorism which is under the Defence Ministry.

Hettiarachchi had previously served as Rehabilitation Commissioner General during the period from February 2012- July 2013.

The Bureau of the Commissioner General Rehabilitation successfully undertook the task of rehabilitating the ex-combatants who surrendered to the Government or arrested during the humanitarian operation.

A total of 12,192 ex-combatants had been re-integrated to society after successful rehabilitation. The Bureau has now been assigned to rehabilitate the drug addicts and is progressing on this task successfully.

Maj.Gen.Hettiarachchi succeeds Major General Janaka Ratnayake who retired recently. He is an old boy of Ananda College, Colombo. He joined the Army in 1984, and served in it for 35 years holding various positions.

He was awarded with ‘Ranashura’, ‘Uttamaseva’ and ‘Vishista Seva Vibushana’ medals in recognition of his service excellence. He retired on July 22, 2019 and was recalled for service to take up an assignment under the Defence Ministry.
