Sri Lankan students quarantined at Diyatalawa return home

The 33 Sri Lankan students who were quarantined at the Diyatalawa Army camp’s Base Hospital upon evacuation from Wuhan, returned to their homes yesterday (14) morning.

According to Military Spokesperson Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe, “the 33 Lankans left yesterday at 10 am, and met with the Army Commander Lt.General Shavendra Silva at the Army Headquarters in Akuregoda yesterday evening.

The Lankans were kept for two weeks at the Diyatalawa Army camp’s Base Hospital when they returned to the country from Wuhan, the epicentre of COVID-19 – by a chartered SriLankan Airlines flight (UL 1423) on February (1).

The charter flight landed at the Mattala airport and received by members of the Army’s Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Response Squadron, who are qualified to deal with such biological or chemical emergencies.

On instructions of Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva, a new building was erected at the Base Hospital of Diyatalawa camp in three days.The students were quarantined for a 14 day quarantine period under the close supervision of medical consultants, epidemiologists and other staffers.

33 Sri Lankans leaves Diyatalawa Army Camp (11:54)

The 33 students who returned from Wuhan city who were quarantined at the Diyatalawa Army Base, have departed to meet Commander of Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the Army Headquarters in Akuregoda.

And they are scheduled to return to their homes this evening, said the Sri Lanka Army.
