Political victimization during 2015 – 2019 period:

Committee receives nearly 20,000 complaints so far

The Cabinet-approved Committee appointed to look into the political victimization at government and semi-government institutions during the 2015 – 2019 period has received nearly 20,000 complaints so far, its Chairman State Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane said.

Speaking to the media in Colombo yesterday, the Chairman said the period to receive such complaints will end on February 25 and the complaints received thereafter would not be taken into consideration.

Accordingly, the Committee requested those who are yet to hand over the complaints to see the Committee or submit them in writing as soon as possible. When asked by the Daily news, State Minister Abeywardane also said the Committee is prepared to accept complaints from the victims despite their political backgrounds but, should be limited to the period of 2015-2019.

The other members of the four-member Committee are Attorney-at-Law Chathurika Wijesinghe (Secretary), former Ministry Secretary Mahinda Seneviratne and former Deputy Director-General of the Road Development Authority Ariyaratne Arumapperuma.
