CCPSL’S 5th Annual Academic Sessions

The 5th Annual Academic Sessions of the College of Chemical Pathologists of Sri Lanka (CCPSL) will be held on February 14-15 at Hotel Hilton, Colombo under the auspices of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) and the Asia Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB).

Eleven world renowned overseas experts in the field of Chemical Pathology and eminent local contributors will deliver lectures in two parallel sessions, academic and laboratory medical science programmes.

The newly-appointed President, Dr. Manjula Dissanayake of Teaching Hospital Karapitiya, Galle, together with the council members look forward to taking all necessary steps to improve the quality of medical laboratory services in Sri Lanka and to march forward with the aim of obtaining laboratory accreditation, which is a symbol of quality and competence of medical laboratories.

The academic sessions provide an excellent forum for about 500 delegates, including members of the College, medical professionals and laboratory professionals to update their knowledge in current best practices in the field of Laboratory Medicine and to exchange of views leading to highly productive discussions.

The CCPSL was established in 2015 to uplift the services provided by the medical laboratories in Sri Lanka, as the major scientific and professional body for practising Chemical Pathologists in Sri Lanka and plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes.

The membership consists of Chemical Pathologists and postgraduate trainees which has expanded over the last five years from a count of 15 to 50 at present. Chemical Pathology is the field in medical laboratory science which handles investigating body fluids like blood and urine.

Chemical Pathologists provide leadership to the large community of medical laboratory technologists in providing a timely and cost-effective Chemical Pathology service to the public of Sri Lanka in the forefront of medical diagnosis and prevention of non-communicable diseases while pursuing avenues of expanding the understanding of the stakeholders by continuous medical education.
