Fined for mosquito breeding sites

Forty-two residents in the Polgahawela town in the Kurunegala District, who pleaded guilty of having mosquito breeding sites in their gardens and business premises, were fined a total sum of Rs. 420,000 by the Polgahawela Magistrate’s Court last Friday.

They were fined for the offence of spreading dengue. Each offender was fined Rs. 10,000. The Polgahawela Medical Officer of Health arrested the offenders during a special operation conducted to apprehend owners of dengue mosquito breeding sites in the Polgahawela electorate with the help of 15 public health inspectors.
