Acting IGP directed to submit copies

The Attorney General has directed Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandana Wickramaratne to submit copies of the audio and video recordings of 12 telephone conversations between MP Ranjan Ramanayake and interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya for his consideration.

Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General, State Counsel Ms. Nishara Jayaratne told news media that the Attorney General wishes to take necessary legal action against the suspects MP Ranjan Ramanayake and interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya.

Previously, the Attorney General had directed the Acting Inspector General of Police to immediately take necessary legal action against interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya in the jurisdiction of the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.

The Attorney General instructed the Director of the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) to obtain an arrest warrant for interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya and produce him before the relevant Magistrate’s Court for conspiring to fabricate false evidence along with MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

On the same day, the Acting Inspector General of Police appointed a five-member committee to investigate the abstracts of the investigation on interdicted Judge Gihan Pilapitya and the Committee was also instructed to make recommendations on the Attorney General’s instructions to arrest interdicted Judge Gihan Pilapitiya.

Embilipitiya High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya was recently interdicted over the controversial phone conversation he had with UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake.
