Alleged interference with judiciary: Ranjan further remanded

Film star–politician and former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake was yesterday ordered to be further remanded till February 22 by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court for his alleged interference with the Judiciary.

A request for bail by the lawyers representing Ramanayake was rejected by the court.

The alleged recording of conversations between Parliamentarian Ramanayake and several members of the Judiciary recently went viral on the Internet and mainstream media in the country.

Several parties, including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) had requested the Chief Justice to conduct an investigation into the recently released recordings of phone conversations between MP Ramanayake and members of the judiciary.

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) on January 14 arrested UNP parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake following an arrest warrant issued by the Court.
