CIPM Sri Lanka – the Nation’s leader in human resource management hosted the President of the Civil Service Commission of the Maldives (CSC) – Dr. Aly Shameem (PhD) and Maryam Saaniga Rasheedh Second Secretary of the Maldivian High Commission in Colombo for a discussion on the capabilities of CIPM Sri Lanka in assisting the CSC in building capacity to fulfill its future endeavors and objectives.
The meeting which was held at the CIPM Sri Lanka Board Room at its head office “HR House” in Colombo 5, and guided tour of the facilities of CIPM Sri Lanka was arranged by President CIPM Sri Lanka President Dhammika Fernando on a direct request made by Dr. Aly Shameem. President CIPM Sri Lanka, two directors, council members, and office bearers of CIPM Sri Lanka were present at the occasion. CIPM Sri Lanka President was also instrumental in formalizing the “Maldives Association of Human Resource Professionals” (MAHRP) and introducing MAHRP to the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) of which CIPM Sri Lanka is an active Board Member.
“We are delighted to provide our expertise to the Civil Service Commission of Maldives and the Civil Service Training Institute of Maldives in the areas of formulating training programmes for trainees as well as trainers, providing of expert services to formulate training curricula in order to uplift the skills and capacities of the Maldivian Civil Service Commission” said Dhammika Fernando-President CIPM Sri Lanka.
The discussions were centered around signing a Memorandum of Understanding between CIPM Sri Lanka and the Civil Service Commission of Maldives (CSC) and the Civil Service Training Institute of Maldives (CSTI) facilitating the provision of short term trainings, train the trainer programmes and to offer trainees from the Maldivian CSC to follow selected training programmes conducted by CIPM. Under the terms of the MOU, CIPM will also assist CSC Maldives to develop relevant training courses and materials, develop curriculum and/or adapt CIPM training materials to suit the requirements of CSC Maldives. Established in 2007 by an Act of Parliament, The Maldives Civil Service Commission took over the challenging task of establishing a modern professional Civil Service in the Maldives.
“Our objective of this MOU with CIPM Sri Lanka is to build capacity in order to ensure that we build a well modern, trained, committed, resourceful and professional Civil Service in the Maldives” said Dr. Aly Shameem – Chairman/President Maldives Civil Service Commission.
Under the terms of the MOU, CIPM Sri Lanka will also provide its expertise for the exchange of ideas on reforms and innovations in the civil/public service through organizing joint conferences/meetings on relevant themes, carry out research and publications, organizing the exchange of experts and providing consultancy services as need by the CSC while also sharing information, research publications and experiences generated by CIPM. CIPM was founded in 1959 – incorporated by Parliamentary Act No. 24 of 1976, amended by Act No. 31 of 2018. CIPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resource Management and to the World Federation of People Management Associations.
