Met. Dept. warning: Rough seas, Strong Wind

The Meteorology Department has alerted over warnings of rough sea conditions and Strong Wind.

The Met. Department forecasts that the Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 pm.

Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places in Uva province and in Hambanthota, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Several spells of showers will occur in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Hambanthota and Polonnaruwa districts.

Due to the active cloudiness within the sea area, the possibility for heavy thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 40-50 kmph) in the sea area off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam and Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Therefore Naval units and fishing communities have been asked to be vigilant in this regard.
