barred from lecturesGovernor orders legal action to be taken:

Eight senior students allegedly involved in indecent ragging of a group of new students at the Kilinochchi campus of the Jaffna University have been barred from attending lectures.

The eight students were identified from information found on their mobile phones during the investigation conducted by a special committee of the Jaffna University under the instructions of Northern Province Governor P.S.M. Charles.

It had been revealed that the freshmen were forced to take nude photos of themselves and send this explicit material to the seniors involved in this incident.

A senior spokesperson for the university said that following the revelation of the incident, many senior students had deleted the data on their phones and some of the students had even changed their phone numbers.

The new students informed the inquiry committee that in addition to the eight students, several other senior students were also involved in the ragging.

The Northern Province Governor has also requested the university authorities to take legal action against the students involved in the incident, once the investigation is over.
