Registrar General’s record room to be upgraded

Public Administration and Internal Affairs State Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe took steps to resolve problems and shortcomings at the Maligawatte Registrar General’s office record room during an inspection tour in response to several public complaints received recently.

A media release by the State Ministry said State Minister Samarasinghe who found the record room lacking adequate facilities and office space for the conservation of birth, marriage and death certificates of all citizens as well as lacking staff, promised to shift the record room to a new building and utilise new technology for document conservation by obtaining necessary funds after bringing the matter to the President’s attention.

State Minister Samarasinghe who appreciated the dedicated work performed by the staff of the Registrar General’s office said he would always intervene to resolve the Department’s problems as it catered to the civil rights of the entire population.

Public Administration and International Affairs State Ministry Secretary B.K.S. Ravindra, Registrar General N.C. Vithanage and other officials were also present on the occasion.
