Sajith provided temporary jobs for youth who canvassed for him - Namal

MP Namal Rajapaksa on Saturday accused former Minister Sajith Premadasa of providing temporary jobs for a large group of youth who canvassed for him without perusing their qualifications, which has resulted in the Ministry of Housing and Cultural Affairs having to pay Rs.990 million as salaries annually.

Speaking at a public event at Teldeniya, Kandy on Saturday Rajapaksa said the ministry has to pay Rs.40 million monthly as salaries for those recruited from the Hambantota district alone, the constituency of Premadasa who contested as the NDF candidate at the last Presidential election and suffered a heavy defeat.

MP Rajapaksa said that Premadasa had given loans to low-income earners to construct houses but had given his close associates financial grants instead of loans.

The MP also charged that Premadasa had wasted money at the Cultural Fund which were meant for the development of Buddhist temples.

“A Commission appointed by former President Maithripala Sirisena to look into the above has found Premadasa responsible and the Bribery and Corruption Commission has filed legal action,” he added.

Rajapaksa questioned the decision by the UNP to appoint Premadasa as the Opposition Leader replacing Ranil Wickremesinghe and added there was no doubt that under Premadasa the already beleaguered UNP may further decline for the worse. The present Rajapaksa Government will soon provide the country’s youth with 100,000 jobs and added that these jobs will be given for the most suitable without considering party or politics.

The event was organized by State Minister Dilum Amunugama.
