Colonel among 21 suspects nabbed

The Police Special Task Force together with the Army conducted a raid and took 21 persons into custody while carrying out an excavation searching for gold buried by the LTTE in the Dharmapuram area in Kilinochchi yesterday.

The suspects include Colonel and two other soldiers who were dressed in Army uniforms. They are said to have provided security to the group of people.

The STF also seized an official vehicle of the Colonel, a luxury jeep, a cab and a van used by the suspects from the area. These suspects are residents of Anuradhapura, Kilinochchi and Paranthan areas and have been handed over to the Dharmapuram Police. They were to be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court. Investigations are continuing.
