Jewellery dealer abducted, robbed of jewellery worth Rs. 2.5m

Dikwella police has launched an investigation into a robbery of Rs. 2.5 million from a jewellery dealer in Kottegoda, Belideniya on February 7 night.

The jewellery dealer has been abducted, robbed and abandoned in Mulatiniyana, police said.

The dealer, 49-year-old Savindra of Weliveriya, has been selling jewellery in Tanamalwila and on the way to his sister’s house in the area when he was abducted and robbed, police said.

The thieves had come in a van and dragged him into the van.

Then he was blindfolded and robbed of several earrings, bracelets, necklace and a few more gold items worth over Rs. 2 million, Police said.

Dikwella police are investigating based on CCTV camera clips.
