CR and FC in runaway 53 -15 win over Air Force

CR and FC continued their impressive form in the second round of the Dialog A Division Rugby League with a runaway 53-15 win over Air Force Sports Club at Longden Place yesterday.

The Red shirts scored five goals, three tries and one penalty, while the Air Force Sports Club replied with one goal, one try and a penalty. The winners led 20-15 at the breather.

The home team opened scoring with a penalty by centre Murshid Zubair in the fifth

minute. In the 12th minute Air Force managed to commence their scoring as full back Gayantha Iddamalgoda booted a 22 metre penalty kick.

CR increased their lead in the 17th minute with their flanker Wajid Fawmy scoring an unconverted try mid right. and CR led 8-3

Soon after, CR further extended their lead as fly half Kalindu Nandila scored his first try of the match , Zubair added the extra points to lead 15-3. Air Force scored their first try when their skipper Ranuka Madagedara touched down. Iddamalgoda converted.

Then, Air Force number eight Dinesh Weerarathne crashed through for an unconverted try off a rolling maul. In the 40th minute CR full back Kevin Dixon scored the third try for the eventual winners to make it 20-15 at half-time.

However, after lemons the Air Force defence cracked up under pressure as CR scored a couple of back to back tries through flanker Jero Dhananjaya and wing three quarter and league’s highest try scorer Janidu Dilshan to gain the much needed bonus point to remain in second place in the league points table.

Four minutes later CR further extended their lead through a try off a rolling maul when Hooker Supun Warnakulasooriya barged over mid-left and the conversion was successfully made by Riza Rafaideen. CR led 39-15.

In the 75th minute CR scrum half Harith Bandara scored mid-right with a fine run. Riza Mubarak added the extra points as CR led 46-15. In the final minutes of the game a moment of individual brilliance from CR wing three quarter Janidu Dilshan who fended off his opposite number Kaushal Manuppriya to score an under the post try. The conversion was successfully made by Riza Mubarak. as the Red Shirts ran out worthy winners by 53 points to 15
