SLTB Chairman applies brakes on conductor fraud

Says Board losing millions daily from all depots

Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) is incurring an average loss of Rs.10 million on a daily basis due to ticket frauds committed by bus conductors, Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said.

This situation has been reported from buses in all 107 SLTB depots he said.The flying squad had found a conductor in a Kadawatha to Matara expressway bus who had committed a ticket fraud of more than Rs.10,000 recently. The employee has been interdicted.

The SLTB Chairman addressing a press conference held at the SLTB headquarters yesterday said in addition to the ticket fraud, some SLTB employees are also engaging in spare part frauds. Ranawaka said action will be taken to arrest these frauds and make the SLTB a profit-earning entity within the next six months.

He also requested the public to inform about the conductors engaging in ticket frauds through 011 7 555 555.

“Taking stern action against those wrongdoers will be helpful to make the Sri Lanka Transport Board a profit-making body and thereby provide an improved service to commuters,” the Chairman said.
