Suspects remanded despite police wanting detention order citing PTA

Panadura Additional Magistrate Chaminda Kalansuriya remanded the three suspects arrested for having heroin worth Rs 2000 mn till March 13 despite police wanting to detain them further under their custody for further probe.

The three suspects were arrested for having heroin worth over Rs. 2000 mn and ten pistols taken into custody from a house in Bandaragama last week.

The magistrate rejected the police application requesting the court to issue a further detention order for seven days to keep the three suspects Madurapperumage Dhananjaya Dharmakumara, Madurapperumage Kanchana Priyadharshani and Bethmage Upeksha Jayamini. They were produced before court by the Western Division Crime Investigations officers before the Magistrate with a B report yesterday. The magistrate considering objections raised by the defence lawyer with the B Report of the Western Province Crime Unit ordered to remand the three suspects till March 13.
