Ayurvedic strategies to prevent Coronavirus discussed

A special discussion was held to plan strategies that can be taken by indigenous medicine to curb and avoid Coronavirus and other viruses between Minister of Women & Child Affairs, Social Security, Health & Indigenous Medicine Pavithra Wanniarachchi and the officials of Nawinna Ayurweda Department and other Ayurwedic doctors at the Health Ministry on last Monday (3).

The precautions that can be taken by the Ayurwedic sector and the methods of creating public awareness were discussed. Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. Therefore, a leaflet containing Ayurwedic precautions against coronavirus was distributed. Ayurweda Commissioner Chathura Kumarathunga said that since there is no medication found to cure Coronavirus, the most important thing to be done is increasing the body immunity. He said the media must play a vital role in making the public aware of the precautions to avoid Coronavirus.

Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi stated that Rs. 120 Billion was spent to obtain modern medicines and it is not good move as a country. Wanniarachchi noted that Even though 70 per cent of the pharmaceutical drugs are made by the indigenous medicine, steps must be taken to put them in the market in collaboration with the State Pharmaceutical Corporation.
