Case filed against interdicted Magistrate Thilina Gamage, three others postponed

The case filed against four accused, including interdicted Magistrate Thilina Gamage for the alleged possession of an elephant without a license was yesterday postponed for February 7 by Colombo High Court.

On a Previous occasion, Thilina Gamagame filed a petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to transferring the case from Colombo High Court presided over by Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga to any other High Court of Colombo.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal had issued an order staying the trial proceeding pertaining to the Case against Thilina Gamage and other until February 5.

Therefore, Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga decided to postpone this case until February 7.

The Court of Appeal fixed for February 5 to deliver its order to decide whether it issues notices on the respondents in the transfer application. The Attorney General had filed indictments against four accused Magistrate Thilina Gamage, Chandrarathna Bandara Yatawara, Wildlife Officers Upali Padmasiri and Priyanka Sanjeewani under 25 counts including possession of an elephant calf without a license, conspiracy to tender false documents and registration of the concerned elephant calf by producing forged documents. The charges were filed for violating the provisions of Fauna and Flora Ordinance and Public Property Act.
