Sajith to lead UNP nomination board - MP Range Bandara

The United National Party (UNP) nomination board will be led by MP Sajith Premadasa, who has been proposed as the Leader of the broad alliance to contest the upcoming Parliamentary Elections, UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara said.

Responding to questions by journalists at a press conference at the Sirikotha UNP Office yesterday, the MP however said the nominations would subject to the recommendation by a Consultative Committee and the approval of the Working Committee.

He said the members to hold the key positions of the broad alliance for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections would be finalised at the next UNP Working Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday (6).

He said the committee appointed to recommend the names for key positions of the alliance, including the post of General Secretary, would make their recommendations on that day. The committee comprises of MPs Ravi Karunanayake, Navin Dissanayake and Lakshman Kiriella. MP Bandara also said that the majority of UNP Working Committee members are of the view that the party’s symbol for the broad alliance should remain the ‘Elephant’. He added that they would propose it at the next Working Committee meeting.
