President attends All Night Pirith Ceremony to mark National Independence Day

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended the All Night Pirith Ceremony held at Independence Square Colombo on February 2 to mark Sri Lanka’s 72nd National Independence Day and invoke blessings on the country and its people.

A communique issued by the President’s Media Unit said the Pinkama held under the patronage of Most Ven Kotugoda Dhammavasa Supreme Mahanayake Thera of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya was held under the guidance of Ven. Borelle Athula Anunayake Thera of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya.

All arrangements were handled by the Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs Ministry and the Department of Buddhist Affairs.

Lekakhadikari of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya Ven. Pallekande Ratanasara Nayaka Thera in an Anusasana said the deep dedication and sacrifice made by Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa helped to bring peace and freedom to the country and the leadership of the two of them would help to build a developed and prosperous country soon.

He said the Maha Sangha greatly honoured and appreciated the services rendered by the President as a true Buddhist leader who honoured and respected the Maha Sangha and the Dhamma.

Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and several other Ministers, Parliamentarians and state officials were also present on the occasion.
