Former president Sirisena to be named as a respondent in IGP’s FR

The Supreme Court today permitted to personally name former President Maithripalal Sirisena as a respondent in the Fundamental Rights petition filed by Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara.

Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Justice S. Thurairajah and Justice Gamini Amarasekara permitted the petitioner to add former President Maithripala Sirisena as a respondent in the petition since he currently does not have immunity.
 
Through this petition, Pujith Jayasundara seeking an Interim Order suspending former President’s decision to send him on compulsory leave following the Easter Sunday bomb attacks. The petition was fixed for support on May 26.
