Army crash land Air Force 28/13

Army SC secured an easy win against Air Force with bonus points by 28 points (5 tries to 1 penalty) to 13 (1 try, 1 conversion, 2 penalties) in their Dialog inter-club second round rugby fixture played at Ratmalana yesterday. At half time Army led 8-6.

Due to Air Force mistakes Army got a penalty opportunity in the fifth minute of the game and place kicker Chamath Fernando made no mistake to give them an early lead.

Air Force equalized through a penalty in the 23rd minute from the boot of skipper Gayantha Iddamalgoda.

Five minutes later Army scored the first try of the match, when Madushika Chandrasekara touched down the right corner post. Iddamalgoda missed the conversion 8-3.

Air Force received their second penalty opportunity and Iddamalgoda put it across to cut the lead down to 8-6 which was the score at the turnaround.

On resumption in the 42nd minute game Army’s foreign ‘import’ Tomasi Caqusue got into action and scored an unconverted try.

Air Force’s ‘import’ James Tuteovuya responded with a try that was converted to reduced the lead to 13-11.

Ashen Bandara, Aravinda Karunaratne and Sachin Gamage then scored a try each for Army to runaway with a victory.
