Mechanism to face natural, climatic emergencies needed - MP

SLFP Youth Front Leader MP Shantha Bandara said a systematic programme should be formulated to deal with future climatic and natural emergencies as well as pandemic and epidemic-prone diseases such as coronaviruses.

“Like the unexpected coronavirus, we might have to face natural and climatic calamities in future.Therefore, we should have a proper mechanism to face a crisis as a nation.

Addressing the media at the SLFP party headquarters in Colombo, he said a special programme is underway on the directions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, to prevent entry of further coronavirus infected persons to the country.

“We must unite as one nation to face future emergencies.National security is not only the country’s security, but it also encompasses community security, environmental security and also protection against diseases and epidemics.

The ‘Gamata Geyak - Ratata Hetak’ housing programme to construct houses for low income families commenced yesterday.This will enable making every family of Sri Lanka to live in a comfortable home as enunciated in the policy statement ‘A reconstructed country with a future’.

One needy family from every Grama Niladhari Division will be provided Rs.600,000 in installments to construct a house anew or for upgrading.The project should be completed within 60 days. The Housing Ministry has allocated Rs. 8.413 billion for this project.
