Special flight arrives in Wuhan

A special SriLankan Airlines charter flight took off from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday evening to bring back Sri Lankan students from Wuhan which is considered the epicenter of the Coronavirus outbreak.

This special flight-UL 1422 landed at the Wuhan Tianhe International Airport at 11.30 p.m. yesterday.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday said all measures have been taken to ensure the safety of those students, health and other staff who interact with them.

Addressing a press conference at the Health Ministry Auditorium yesterday, Wanniarachchi said this flight with especially trained crew on board will bring these students back to the country.

After the arrival, they will be taken to Diyathalwa through a special arrival terminal allocated for the passengers coming from Wuhan.

According to Minister Wanniarachchi, they will be taken to Diyathalawa in a special bus equipped with toilets and all the other facilities.

“Their luggage will also be handled separately and they will be provided accommodation in 34 rooms with all facilities.

The Minister said the Badulla Hospital has now being prepared with all required facilities to face any possible situation.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that the Ministry has already provided all equipment and attire (jackets to cover full body) for the health staff.

“All passengers flying to Colombo have fill a form at the BIA.

The form is given to the passengers in English and Chinese on board of the flight.

The situation of the NIID is completely normal and it is functioning properly, contrary to the fabricated and inacurate news published in some media and posted on social media.
